A Bright Shining Light from Within

BETRO promotes better opportunities for disabled people to access education, health care, and employment with a particular focus on children born in poor families. CBI awarded BETRO for its approach to recruit volunteers as well as to engage them in initiatives to raise public awareness about disabled people’s rights and to mobilize new volunteers and in-kind support. Through its Rehabilitation Program for the Disabled People, BETRO brings together poor women with and without disabilities to learn entrepreneurship skills from each other. Under the program, BETRO also provides training to disabled people, parents of disabled children, and teachers at local schools, and organizes events to observe national and international holidays for people with disabilities. Through the final component of the program, the Talking Library, voice volunteers record the reading materials about entrepreneurship for the visually impaired.
